Colin Hart – Owner
Colin is a sound recordist and editor. He enjoys engaging conversation and long walks on the beach. If you’re lucky, you might catch him staring up at the stars and listening intently to the wonders of the world around him.
But on a serious note… I’ve been doing sound for about 15 years now. I started out doing live sound gigs in high school for a number of years, and then I started to develop an interest in film sound, but I got my foot in the door in music. I attended Full Sail University, where I received a degree in Recording Arts and a degree in Entertainment Business. I moved to NYC and worked at Electric Lady Studios for a little over a year. I worked with, on, and around some killer projects, but didn’t really like the industry, so I finally followed my heart into film. I studied what resources I could find in books and online, and I did a few cool gigs here and there. I eventually became tired of New York City and moved back down to Orlando.
That leads me to now. I have been recording sound effects for over 3 years now, and I’ve gotten fairly good at it. I started to see guys around the sound community (Tim Prebble, Frank Bry, Chuck Russom, Michael Raphael, and more…) start selling “independent sound libraries”. They really started to catch on in the community. Quality sounds from guys that know what they’re doing. And they’re WAY cheaper than huge libraries. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to make a difference in the sound community.
I wanted to create something different too. My first library I decided to do was my Industrial library (Hart of Steel). You can get these types of sounds everywhere, but you can’t get a multitrack version with Isolated mics everywhere. That’s just the start though. I only intend to improve on what I’ve achieved so far! I’m always trying to push boundaries and try new things. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t. You can see a lot of my trials and errors in the blog section.
Johnny Pease – Recordist and Editor
Johnny is an assistant recordist and editor for HartFX. Here’s what he has to say about himself:
“In the last three years I have been trying to find where I fit in the audio world. In 2008 I took a chance and made my way to Full Sail University and I’m glad to say that I have just successfully finished the Recording Arts Bachelors of Science program. I had initially taken the program to become a mix engineer for a big studio but that changed at the tail end of my program when I got more interested in interactive audio and the whole process of recording sounds to be used as a tool and not just an end product. Throughout the two years I was there my understanding of the audio world grew and the more knowledge I attained the more passionate I became about the quality of audio. I am still new in the industry but I’m learning every day and striving to be better than I was the day before. My goal is to capture sounds to the best of my ability so that, as a tool, it can be used in as many ways as possible and also to create sounds to immerse the listener and to give them an amazing experience.”
